What is the difference between Wusthof knives?

Wusthof Classic

As the name suggests, the Wusthof Classic is a timeless design that has been around for centuries. Only this is the highest quality example to be found anywhere in the world. The finest steel from Solingen in Germany (who have been producing steel for thousands of years) in a knife meticulously put together to last a lifetime.

Wusthof Classic Ikon

Whereas the Classic typically has a bolster at the base of the blade to protect fingers and create balance, the bolster is positioned at the base of the handle with the Classic Ikon, balancing the knife perfectly and giving you perfect control - this also means you can use the full length of the blade. The handle on the Classic Ikon is ergonomically sculpted (as opposed to the more angular Classic handle), making it beautifully comfortable in the hand.

Wusthof Ikon

Wusthof's finest knife, whereas the Wusthof Classic Ikon handles are made from durable, synthetic polypropylene, Wusthof Ikon handles are crafted from African Blackwood.

Wusthof Gourmet

The blades of the Wusthof Gourmet range are laser cut from a sheet of steel as opposed to the heavier, tougher forged steel found in the Classic and Ikon lines. Wusthof Gourmet handles are made from polypropylene.

Wusthof Silverpoint

Wusthof's entry level range, all your money is going on the quality of the steel, which is second to none. A light knife with a laser cut blade, and a bit of a bargain considering it's made in Germany.

Wusthof Grand Prix II

Similar to a Wusthof Classic, in that the blades are forged, so weighty and strong, money has been saved with the Wusthof Grand Prix II as the steel doesn't quite reach all the way to the base of the synthetic handle, so balance won't be quite as good as a Classic.
